We all want to have a toned and beautiful body. For this, you are ready to work hard in the gym and eat lettuce leaves exclusively. But when you have your off days from the gym, what happens then? Many people lose all their motivation and start eating unhealthy and high-carb meals. This not only overshadows all the effort you put into your body in the gym but also affects the body transitioning process.
As a fitness freak, you must turn your days off from the gym into growth days too. Whether your goal is to gain strength and muscle mass or lose weight, an adequate diet plan can help you achieve your body’s needs while it is in recovery mode.
In today’s blog post, we’ll discuss the top three tips for eating well on rest days.
1. Listen to Your Body
Listen to your body carefully. Eat slowly and thoughtfully – stop when you are full, and only eat when you are hungry. Moreover, pay less attention to your chocolate cravings. It only gives you fat that you don’t need to put on during the time away from the gym.
Still, if you are craving chocolates, make sure to eat them in a small amount. Remember, the more junk you intake, the more time you’ll have to spend burning it off!
2. Eat Enough Protein and Calories
Contrary to what most people believe, you don’t need to cut down your calorie or protein intake during your rest days. Even without a proper physical routine, your body requires a minimum number of calories to function well.
The calorie-to-protein ratio should stay the same throughout. You still need enough quality fat to support the joints and heart and reduce inflammation, enough protein to repair damaged body tissues during workouts, and enough carbohydrates to allow your body to recover from routine exercises. So, next time your intuition tells you to reduce the calorie and protein count, give it a second thought!
3. Stay Hydrated
Water isn’t only essential when you are working out. Staying hydrated both during gym and rest days is equally important. It helps deliver nutrients throughout your body and prevents muscle cramps.
Experts advise drinking at least 6-10 glasses of water per day. It is healthy for your body as well as your brain to keep it active.
While your guilt of not working out might have brought you here, understand that your body is doing a lot of recovery work even when you’re away from the gym.
